Separation point of shaker, desander,and desilter
Separation point of shaker is the shaker screen separation point or cut point. It is the size of screen absolute hole or the size of solid out of fluid.
Theoretically, we use the shale shaker to get rid of coarse drilled solids sized over 100 microns. The screen mesh size is from 40 mesh to 140 mesh. We say desander cones separation point is 47-74 micron that means finer solid will be separated out by further equipment or device. Desilter can handle the solid sized 15-46microns.
Some client will ask "why you say shaker can get rid of solids sized 100 microns but use screen with 40 mesh or finer but not 140 mesh" We select shale shaker and screens based on clients drilling condition. Desilter cone get rid of particles sized over 15 microns, fluid will be pumped into centrifuge
Decanter centrifuge will separate solids ranged 2~7 microns. We utilize shale shaker, hydrocyclone separator since coarser particle for equipment may low down their performance. Or the equipment may wear much and request more maintenance.
