AIPU Solid Control Successfully Delivers Corrosion-Resistant Acid Tanks with Glass Flake Technology

We are pleased to announce the recent completion and shipment of a batch of custom-designed acid tanks, manufactured by AIPU Solid Control. These tanks have been dispatched to a leading overseas drilling equipment company and are set to be integrated into their production operations. The acid storage units feature an internal coating applied with glass flake paint anti-corrosion technology, working in synergy with corrosion-resistant fluoride pumps to provide a secure and highly reliable solution for the storage and handling of strong acids.

Technical Highlights: Glass Flake Technology for “Zero-Leakage” Storage Tanks

The core innovation of these acid tanks lies in the internal application of a glass flake anti-corrosion coating. Using a combination of brushing, high-pressure spraying, and roller coating techniques, the glass flakes are arranged in an overlapping structure, significantly reducing coating porosity and ensuring complete coverage without dead angles. This greatly minimizes the permeability of chemical media, thereby extending the service life of the tanks. Compared with traditional anti-corrosion coatings, this advanced process offers the following advantages:

Three-Layer Protective Structure

  • Primer Layer: An epoxy zinc-rich primer provides cathodic protection, forming an electrochemical barrier with the metal tank body.
  • Intermediate Layer: The glass flake coating (with a thickness ≥0.3mm) is arranged in a fish-scale overlapping pattern, effectively blocking the penetration path of acidic solutions and demonstrating excellent resistance to salt spray corrosion.
  • Topcoat Layer: Made of polyurea material, this layer enhances impact resistance and can withstand strong acid environments with pH values ranging from 1 to 12.

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: Capable of withstanding long-term immersion in highly corrosive chemicals such as 98% concentrated sulfuric acid, effectively preventing leakage.

Superior Impact Resistance: Even in cases of localized damage, the overall anti-corrosion performance remains uncompromised.

Ease of Application: The coating features low curing shrinkage and strong adhesion, making it suitable for complex tank structures.

Synergistic Design with Fluoride Pumps: The pumps flow-handling components are lined with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), offering superior resistance to hydrofluoric acid compared to traditional rubber-lined pumps. The sealing system has been upgraded to a double mechanical seal, with a leakage rate ≤0.01 ml/h, complying with ISO 15848 standards.

Safety Assurance: The glass flake anti-corrosion system ensures “zero leakage” during acid storage, providing a solid line of defense for subsequent processes.

The anti-corrosion performance is notably superior to that of traditional rubber linings. According to the client’s Technical Director:
