The purpose and maintenance of mud agitator
Drilling mud agitator is a part of the drilling fluids purification system. It is used to mix the drilling fluids, and prevent the cuttings and sand from depositing to the bottom of the mud tank, thus ensure them to get through the purification system smoothly.
Mud agitator serve three purpose
1. Ensure mud additives are homogeneously mixed, preventing spot over treatment of chemicals, dilution water or weighting agents.
2. Prevents the spits from “gelling” by keeping the active mud system moving when the mud pumps are disengaged.
3. When drilling with weighted mud, properly sized agitators will keep the weighted agents in suspension, minimizing solids from settling in corners or dead spots of pit.
Four tips on maintenance of mud agitator
1. Mud agitator installation should be level and smooth lifting agitator placed in the position, adjust concentricity <0.39mm after four M16 socket welded to the tank and tighten the base bolt.
2. Mud agitator rigid coupling spring washer must be installed and should be solid and reliable, otherwise it will cause waves axle deflection, exacerbated reducer wear.
3. Mud agitator should be no exception, cassettes, high temperature anomalies in operation. Otherwise should stop to check, and trouble shooting.
4. The oil level height of mud agitator should be kept in the central visual oil window position, and it should often add the lubricating oil in working time. It is recommended to use 120 # industrial gear oil. When it can not meet at the site, also can use other size appropriate lubricating oil.
