Drilling fluid skimmers on mud tank
Pleased to share some information on the drilling fluid skimmers. One of our client requests us to build such item for them. Usually, we also call it as communication pipe, the leveling pipe, etc. Why do we need such items? They also give us their opinion
The skimmers main function is to control the level difference between tanks or compartments. We usually control the hand winch to achieve such result. Fluid skimmers can be built in many means. Generally, they can be found at the shaker end where you are trying to manage settling and volumes without suction or discharges.
By using such skimmers the lighter mud to be skimmed of the top of each tank allowing for solids fall out. They introduce lighter mud to ned pit bottom with allows for better blending and reduces the issue of mud at the bottom of pits becoming "dead" volume. If fluid volumes get low it will act as the equalizer between different liquid level. It will also keep certain minimal volumes in pits that contain things like vacuum degassed suctions
