Some details on mud gas separator operation

Mud gas separator as a drilling mud equipment is used to process drilling mud with lots of dissolved gas and free gas, these gases can be expanded at atmospheric pressure. The traditional mud gas separator is equipped between throttle pipe and shale shaker, it has a pipeline that is used to directly discharge gas.
Mud gas separator should meet following request
1. According to practical experience, the treating capacity of the mud gas separator must be 5 times than the design cycle.
2. Inlet pipe diameter of mud gas separator should be equal to or bigger than the throttle pipe to exclude the diameter of the pipeline.
3. The inner diameter of the mud discharge pipe of the liquid gas separator shall be not less than the diameter of the inlet pipe, mud is directly discharged into t the inlet line of shale shaker or the mud tank.
4. The diameter of the exhaust pipe should be 200mm or greater.
5. Shouldn’t install the valve on gas discharge pipes
Mud gas separator inspection
1. Gas discharge pipe of mud gas separator must be fixed firmly.
2. In winter, if the bottom of the mud gas separator installed the cleaning valve, in order to prevent the liquid freezing to block mud gas separator, we should open the valve.
3. Clean and maintain mud gas separator according to the instruction manual or service provided by the manufacturer.
